First of four characters: a 62-year-old grandmother looking to add to her “bucket list” of life experiences

We’ve been searching high and low for four first-timers willing to ride naked in this year’s Solstice Parade – and be filmed doing it. It’s a tough sell. We have a ton of footage of people saying “no.” Great stuff, really. And very important to the film. But until recently, we didn’t have anyone saying the most important words: yes. Now we do.

I’m happy to introduce the first character confirmed to appear in Beyond Naked: 62-year-old Marty Vale. She’s a grandmother, an art car enthusiast, and a pilot who is active in The Ninety-Nines, a group that Amelia Earhart helped start to promote women in aviation. All her life, she’s had what she calls a “bucket list” of things she wants to experience while she’s young enough to enjoy them. And ever since she began attending the Fremont Solstice Parade three years ago to display her art car, she’s wondered whether she had what it takes to ride naked (tastefully painted of course) in front of half of Seattle. This year, we’re going to find out.

We’re still looking for three more participants, so if you know of someone who is considering the ride but has misgivings or is on the fence, that’s exactly the kind of person we’re looking for! If that’s you or someone you know, please drop me an email to .

  1. Marty Vale says:

Congratulations to my 62-year-old namesake who has far more courage than I. Anyway, I’m quite sure I wouldn’t look nearly as good as she will. Go get ‘em, Marty!
    Sincerely, another Marty Vale
